BOURNEMOUTH (RACECOURSE) GREYHOUND STADIUM

This site is not an official website for the track shown here and is neither approved or endorsed by the stadium. I am indebted to Richard English for helping to construct this page.

Local entrepreneurs in the Bournemouth area had high hopes of developing a new racecourse on the site of a former airport on Ensbury Park. The magnificent course opened in 1925 but only lasted for 3 years before finally closing in 1928. A greyhound track was also developed on the same site as the racecourse, and buildings were finally completed towards the end of 1927. The track was situated at 1° 53' W 50° 45' N.

The first meeting at the new greyhound track took place in January 1928, but the venture was short lived and only 9 meetings took place.

I am grateful to Jon Seddon for the following link to a map showing the whereabouts of the old track

This section gives a comprehensive picture of the badges produced by the track throughout the ages, but only provides the briefest of glimpses of its history. For those wishing to undertake further research we can recommend a visit to
